Beauty Resolutions!

Instead of the usual 'lose 10lbs', 'exercise 3 times a week' or 'spending ban' resolutions this year I'm giving myself beauty resolutions.

1. Invest in a good skin care routine
I previously had serve acne which was treated with a course of Accutane. It's still playing up so I've decided to ditch all my different cleansers, moisturisers and spot creams and stick to one brand. I'm undecided between La Roche Posay or Liz Earle. Any recommendations for oily acne prone skin?

2. Finish 1 lipstick, 1 foundation, 1 blusher, 1 eyeshadow
I have a huge box of make-up that I need to make my way through. I want to finish one  lipstick, foundation, blusher and eyeshadow, I figured I could do this in a year, right?

3. Research products before buying
This is my way of spending less, I have a little impulse buy in Boots and never ending up using it as it will break me out, doesn't suit me or isn't suitable for my oily skin.
I'll be using Temptalia  and MakeUpAlley to read reviews.

Carrot Top: L'Oreal Feria in Paprika Power Review

I've never really done a hair blog post before, to be honest I don't use expensive shampoos and conditioner but I thought I'd do a quick review of my hair dye. I've had ginger hair for just under a year, it began with a ginger brown tint that was done at my local salon and then it got brighter and brighter until I became a carrot top! Flash photography make the colour so bright but it's actually more like the picture below in real life.

L'Oreal's Feria hair dye is my choice, the shade is called Paprika Power. It's has the usual two mixtures, the developer and dye, but you also get a capsule of oil which is meant to keep hair healthy and give shine. I just mix and shake then apply all over and leave for 25 minutes like instructed.
I love the vibrant colour it gives but man, my hair is dry after! It goes come with a medium sized hair conditioner in the box, which you can use two or three times, it does take the edge off the dryness.
I get mine from Boots for about £5 or £6.

Pros
Vibrant colour
Lasts ages without fading
Conditioner included
Good price

Cons
Does smell like chemicals, but most dyes do
Does dry hair

Would I recommend it?
YES!

What's your favourite hair dye?

Lust List: ASOS, Topshop, Yankee Candle

Topshop Tri Lock Merino Clutch - £48
I loved this green clutch as soon as I saw it on the 'New In' section on the website. I thought this would be a nice change from black when wearing a dark coloured outfit. Green not your colour? They have a orange and black version too!

Topshop Lace Overlay Flippy Dress - £48
I am a lover of lace and this nude and black dress is no exception. I think this would be a lovely Christmas Day dress, it's dressy but cute.

ASOS Mongolian Fur Jacket - £80, sale for £48
I've wanted a fur coat for ages but one with shaggy long hair, which is impossible to find on the high street! This one from ASOS is on sale from £80 to £48 - BARGAIN!

Cherries on Snow Yankee Candle - £15.72
I picked up a small sample candle of this scent a few weeks ago, I'm in love! It smells like cherry drops sweets, I need the bigger size jar ASAP!

After a try, are they worth a second buy? (November Empties)

I have a love/hate relationship with this concealer. It's extremely thick, which makes it great at covering dark circles, but it creases and it doesn't set so it slides around. I have to set this with a touch of power and just touch up every few hours.
Verdict: No repurchase

I purchased this last year in New York in the shade 1C1 Shell, which is now discontinued :( :( :(
I adore this foundation for nights out so I'm so sad it's gone!
Verdict: Would repurchase if they had the right shade still

This is my all time favourite perfume, but with a hefty price tag I can't always afford to repurchase. Fingers crossed I receive it as a Christmas present!
Verdict: Repurchase

I've had this shade for ages and just wanted to use it up this month so I could Back 2 MAC. I would say that it doesn't have as much colour pay off as I would of liked!
Verdict: No repurchase

I've worn this foundation for years and repurchased numerous bottles. It's the perfect foundation for oily skin!
Verdict: Repurchase

This primer is fantastic with all foundations and keeps shine at bay!
Verdict: Repurchase

November Favourites!

Zara Woman White Eau de Toilette
This 30ml bottle cost me around £6-£7 pound from Zara, it's a lovely fresh, clean scent that is perfect for everyday use! I really recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap fragrance!

Make Up For Ever HD Primer
I bought this is a little 'test me' set while I was in New York last Christmas, I really do like this primer. It's quite thin and you don't need much, plus it keeps shine at bay! I'd like to try it with the MUFE HD foundation too.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
I bought this after Tanya Burr (pixi2woo from Youtube) said this was her favourite setting powder. I trust her opinion as she has worked as a make-up artist for years and worked on celebs like Millie from MIC! She was right, this powder is wonderful to use!

MAC Twinks Eyeshadow
My Urban Decay Naked palette is given so much of my love that I feel I have neglected my MAC eyeshadows. Autumn has made me pick more purple, brown hues to match the autumnal colours, this one is perfect!

MAC Springsheen Blush
I'm addicted to this blush, it gives me a lovely rosy glow. It really helps brighten up my face on cold winter days!

There is only 26 days left until Christmas, so I thought I'd show you wants on my wishlist, thought it might give you a few ideas for your own!

001. Zara Coat with Quilted Sleeves - £139
I adore Zara's clothing, it's so chic and simple and looks very expensive. Okay, this coat is actually expensive but I think it's a statement piece that will stay on trend for seasons to come!

002. Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch - £25
Youtubers and bloggers have been raving about this Clarins product. It claims to smooth over imperfections and leave a perfectly flawless base for your foundation. I need this!

003. Clarins Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour - £25
I've noticed a lot of my make-up collection contains matte items, it's an automatic response to having oily skin but now my skin has calmed down thanks to Quinoderm (see post here), I want a bit of a glow to my cheeks. This lovely blusher comes in 6 different shades, I love this one named 'Lovely Rose'.

004. Chloe Eau de Parfum - £52
I have quite a fragrance collection building up and Christmas is a perfect time to add to this. I have worn Chloe perfume for years and need to add it back onto my dressing table!

005. Benefit They're Real Mascara - £18.50
I've not really tried many Benefit products, but I've read fantastic reviews on this 'They're Real' mascara. I'm hoping for fluttery long lashes!

A Product for Acne Sufferers!

At 20, I would like to have told the blogosphere that yes, your spots go away after your teenage years. I'm in final year of university and I STILL get spots the size of little mountains!

A brief history of my skin: I have suffered from acne since about the age of 12-13, this was treated with a course of strong medication called Roaccutane. I don't advice this to everyone, my skin got so much worse before it got better. I am now left with scarring and a few spots here and there which flare up with hormones.

I recommend Quinoderm, I got this over the counter in Asda for a few pounds and it's worked wonders!

Originally I was looking for Panoxyl, but the pharmacy assistant told me they no longer stock it and Quinoderm was it's replacement.
It's a gel like formula that you apply directly onto the spot, it does sting a little but it's not uncomfortable. I like the stinging sensation, makes me feel like it's actually working!
I just dot this on my spots and any little blemishes that are forming, it's a miracle worker, my spots are a lot better after applying this at night!

Advantages
Widely available, don't need to see a doctor.
Cheap.
Reduces spot size.

Disadvantages
Doesn't smell too great.
Stings slightly but not unbearable.

This would be a great product for most acne sufferers but if you are really struggling with spots, it's best to see a doctor and get something stronger prescribed.

Have you ever tried Quinoderm?
Got any other acne fighting recommendations?

Eyelash Extensions Experience

Getting some eyelash extensions was very unplanned. I complimented a friend in uni about how fluttery her lashes looked and she told me about the Christmas Event our local salon was having that day. All treatments were 75% off, which meant these extensions only cost me £5 instead of £25, bargain!
I thought I'd give them a go and let you guys know how it went in case you are planning to get some this Christmas.

The treatment it's self only took 5 minutes. She just got me to remove all my eye make-up and lay down on the table. I picked the medium sized lashes for the middle and inner corner and the long ones at the ends to create a little flick or cat eye look. The beauty therapist instructed me to keep my eyes closed and not to open them at all during the application. She applied warm glue to the base of each extension 'clump' and dropped them as close as possible to my lash line. It ever so slightly stings because of the heat but its not unbearable. I kept my eyes closed for a few more minutes to let the glue set and then took a peek in the mirror. They actually looked so fluttery and lovely! I was told they could last up to a week with good care.

Straight after the treatment

The next day with eyeliner

Top tips for keeping them in good condition:
Don't apply mascara, the lashes go clumpy.
Use oil free make-up remover.
Be careful and gentle when removing eye make-up.
Never pull them out!

To remove them I just took a really hot shower and then careful slid the lashes off my own. I haven't noticed any of my own lashes being lost after the treatment. I would recommend this for anyone looking for fluttery lash for Christmas occasions, just take good care of them!

Skull Make-up Tutorial Take Two

Experimenting with make-up is my hobby. I originally wanted to be a make-up artist when I was younger but my love of fashion and writing led me to a Fashion Journalism degree. Halloween is just an excuse for me to play with make-up. Here is my second skull make-up attempt, see the first here.
I like this better than my first attempt, I followed this tutorial by the lovely LetzMakeup.
She has amazing make-up skills! Check out her channel for other Halloween ideas; a masquerade mask, ice queen, black widow, psycho doll and loads more.

Skeleton/Skull Make-up Tutorial

Only two more days till Halloween! I thought I'd practice my skeleton make-up before the day so I could show you guys. Here's how I did it...

1. If you want to white out your skin this step is your first, I just used my palest foundation as a base.

2. I used my Bad Gal eyeliner by Benefit, which is quite chunky to black out my eyes and nose. Draw circles with slighty squared edges over your eyes, covering the whole are in eyeliner. I then drew an 'M' shape over the middle of my nose, then extended this down around my nose and nostrils.

3. Next I drew the teeth in with the eyeliner, I just extended the corners of my mouth out and drew vertical lines over my lips. Then I use black eyeshadow on my Sigma E30 pencil brush to shade, I could pack colour on but also use the edges to blend and create shadow.

4. The jaw and cheek bone detail was created by curving a line up to my ear, a left a little gap then pencilled in the bottom jaw line with a rounded 'M' shape so the bones matched up. I filled in the lower cheek in with my eyeliner to create the mouth cavity.

5. The last step was shading and creating shadow, I used my pencil brush and black shadow for this. I drew 'V' shapes on my temples and lines up from my brows to my forehead and smudged then out. I also shaded around the eyes, nose and jaw to add extra dimensions.

I'm not a 100% happy with the design but I'll fix it up for Wednesday. I think the teeth need to be bigger and I need to fix the jaw bone slightly but you can fiddle around to get your perfect skeleton make-up!

What are you guys dressing up as on Wednesday?
I hope you have a wonderful Halloween!

Lust List

Henry Holland Bone Tights
With Halloween just over a week away I've been thinking of outfit/costume ideas. I've decided to go as a skeleton, and what perfect way to be scary but fashionable - Henry Holland bone tights!

The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling
I am an avid Harry Potter fan, I've read the books and watched the films four or five times each! The Casual Vacancy is J.K Rowling's step into more adult reading. I'm intrigued to see if it's my kind of read.

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint
I adore Barry M nail polishes, I used to be obsessed with their purple pastel shade named Berry Ice Cream. These new releases are said to have a high shine and long lasting finish after just one coat, I'll be picking one up to test this.

Topshop Lipstick in Wicked
Dark berry shades are fantastic for autumn and suit a range of skin tones. This colour could be paired with a smokey eye for vampy looks this Halloween.

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment
The lovely bloggers I met at the Next Beauty event in London recommended this treatment after I complained about my damaged hair never wanting to grow. Fingers crossed this could give me luscious long locks in no time.

Next Beauty Event (Picture Heavy)

Running half an hour late and flustered I was on my way to London Paddington station to attend the Next Beauty event. I was kindly invited to the Hempel Hotel for the event by the lovely Gemma (@gglover2), as soon as I arrived I was welcomed with a glass of bubbly, it helped calm my nerves! As this was my first blogger event that I had the opportunity to attend I was unsure of what to expect!

The interior was set up in a boutique style with glossy counters filled with lotions and potions. The main focus of the show room was their 'A Tale of Four Cities', four unique fragrance collections inspired by the fashion capitals, London, Paris, Milan and New York. The minimalistic design and muted pastels mimicked the fragrance companies like Jo Malone and The White Company but at a fraction of the price!

Paris was pastel pink, the fragrance was described by the perfume experts as a floral, with hints of jasmine and orchid. Milan, which was pale blue, was next on the counter, this would be perfect for anyone who loves a fruity floral scent. Mint pastel green was New York, my favourite city was encapsulated in a white floral fragrance with notes of orange blossom. Pale yellow products were dedicated to our capital city, London, which had a musky floral base with citrus zing.

I'm glad they included a Christmas scent to their new collection, an expert told me this will rival Yankee Candles with 8% fragrance.

Along with these beautiful new scents, Next have released their famous fragrances, Just Pink, Cashmere and Gold in cute sets, perfect for Christmas gifts (click each name to shop).

I also met some lovely blogger while at the event, go check out their blogs:

I went a tiny bit mad in Topshop....

Winter essentials were needed, so I popped to Topshop while they had their 20 percent off for students.
Here's what I purchased:

April Classic Chelsea Boots - £62
I really wanted some Chelsea boots for this winter, they can be styled with jeans, tights and a dress or leggings so they are worth the investment.

Lassie Leopard Stack Platforms - £55
I'm really picky with shoes - I need a good platform, straps around the ankles and they need to be comfortable to walk in. These babies tick all three boxes and they will go with almost everything!

Knitted Stud Rib Cardi - £48
This cardi is so comfy, perfect for hungover days at uni, the studs turn this casual cardi into a statement piece. I plan to wear it to death!

MOTO Blue Supersoft Skinny Jeans - £38
Every girl needs the perfect pair of jeans that flatter your figure. I adore these and they are super soft. Lets hope they don't go baggy in the wash though!

What have you purchased this week?

Skin Saviours

After suffering with acne I've tried and tested hundreds of lotions and potions trying to combat spots without drying my skin out.
Here are my 'skin saviours' or you could called them my holy grail skin care items.

Clinique Moisture Surge
I first tried this moisturiser when it came as a sample with a magazine, it's a great all purpose lotion. It's light weight and non greasy so can be used at day and night. I slap some of this on if I get dry patches after using spot creams.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo
I discovered the La Roche Posay line after Holly from YMMB mentioned it on her Youtube channel. I recommend this lotion to anyone with problematic oily skin. I don't use it every day as sometimes it can dry my skin out but it's great for days when my skin is worse.

Garnier Dark Spot Corrector
I bought this quite recently, I always moan about the marks left on my face after spots so I picked this up hoping for results. It smells lovely and fruity, probably as it had added vitamin C! I use this at night and I had actually seen some reduced colouring to the marks and so has my friend who is trying it out too!

What are your skin saviours?

Try their mouth watering flavours - Julius' Red Raspberry,  Julius' Coconut and Cream, Clancy's Cotton Candy, Mika's Sweet Cream, Julius' Strawberry Banana, Chachi's Fried Ice Cream, Bunny Girl's Carrot Cake and Spicoli's Spurmoni.

Paul Frank Chachi's Fried Ice Cream - *c/o Lip Smackers

Pros
Perfect hand bag size.
Fun design.
Smells amazing.
Cons
No colour pay off, not really suitable for those who want a coloured balm.

I think these balms are handbag friendly and could be a great gift for younger sisters or friends. I've never tried fried ice cream before this Lip Smacker smells so delicious!

Did you  used to collection Lip Smackers in school like I did?

August Favourites

This month I have settled into a beauty routine, not really straying from my usual beauty and make-up products, so this monthly favourites will be short and sweet!

Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash Mascara
As some of my readers will know this is my holy grail mascara along with Max Factor's False Lash Effect. I picked this up while I was on holiday in Rome, it's a shame it's not as readily available in this country. It gives my fluttery and thick lashes and doesn't flake!

Big Bang Theory
I am obsessed with this series at the moment, episodes only last 20 minutes so they are just quick and easy to watch!

Jeffrey Campbell Litas
I know that every high street brand has a dupe of these but I decided to treat myself to the real thing. They are the most comfortable heels I have ever owned. Well worth the money! I think I'll purchasing some more JC's next pay day.

Marc Jacobs Dot Perfume
I adore this fragrance, it's light and fresh, perfect for every day wear.

A/W Essentials #1: Printed Trousers

With Autumn fast approaching, brands are filling their shelves with chunky knits, jackets and printed trousers. I can't wait to fill my wardrobe with these items!
Flicking through ASOS I came across so many beautiful pairs of trousers. I'm usually a leggings kinda girl, (I find jeans uncomfortable) but they don't quite cut it during winter so I will be opting for printed trousers.
Opulence is a huge trend this season and I think a good pair of printed trousers teamed with a crisp shirt and a statement necklace and double cuffs will tick the trend box. It's an excellent way to wear the trend without going overboard. Here are some of my favourites, whether you want to save or splurge!

Nail Art: Prep and My Favourite Designs

It seems everyone from Olympians to celebrities have jumped on the nail art band wagon. The nails are a bare canvas in which we can express ourselves it seems!

Here are some of my nail art preparation tips:

1. Apply a good hand exfoliant, pretty and soft hands are the start for nail art. This one by Pretty Hands exfoliates with no need to wash your hands after. The formula breaks down as you massage it in, leaving you with pretty pinkies!

2. The most common error when people file their nails is that they pull the emery board back and forwards furiously. The back and forward motion weakens nails, so use single strokes in the same direction until you get your desired nail shape.

3. Laziness or lack of time means people will not apply a base coat, but using one prevents the nail from staining after using dark polishes. It also helps create a perfect flat base for the polish and increase the longevity of the colour.

4. Choose a shade to create a base for your designs. Apply carefully and leave the layer dry before adding any more coats.

5. Once all the nail polish coats are dry you can start your nail art design. Topshop have nail art pencil in style of felt tips and WAH nails also have their own pens. You can also search eBay for nail art pens and tools.

6. Apply a top coat to seal the design in and dab a cotton bud in nail vanish remover to clean up any mistakes and voila!

Here's some inspiration for your designs...
