Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick Review and Swatches - 12 Shades

The word matte can evoke thoughts of a drying, cakey formula, but the latest Bourjois lipstick launch is far from it. Influenster kindly sent me all 12 shades of the new Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick to review.

I’d heard amazing things about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick, which is their older liquid lipstick offering which comes in a lipgloss style tube with a doe foot applicator.  However, this new lip option comes in a lipstick bullet form, they answered the prayers of those who don’t want a liquid lipstick if they want a matte finish.

Like it’s older sister, the Rouge Velvet The Lipstick has coloured packing to match the shade inside. This makes it incredibly easy to grab the shade you want from your collection, without having to rummage around and read all the names (MAC lipsticks, I’m looking at you).

What makes these new lipsticks unique is their ‘High Precision Bullet’, shaped like a tear drop. This makes it incredibly easy to apply the shade around the cupid's bow, ensuring a neat lip colour every time.

The formula is dreamy, the lipstick glides over the lips without any dragging or skipping. It provides punchy pigment and a soft velvet feel. It isn’t at all drying or cakey on the lips, thanks to its moisturising consistency.

12 shades are available in the Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick range. They can be grouped together in 3 colour families, nude pinks, oranges, dark reds.

Starting with the nude pinks, the lightest being Hey Nude, going through to Flamingo Rose, Hyppink Chic, and Hip Hip Pink. These are the most wearable of the shades; I can see myself pairing these shades with almost any makeup look.

Next up are the oranges, Brique-a-brac being the in between of the nude pinks and oranges. Then follows, Abrico’dabra, the truest orange shade, both Joli Carmin’ois and Rubi’s Cute are reds with an orange undertone.

For those who adore a fuchsia lip, you’ll need to add Fuchsia Botte to your collection. Magni-fig, Berry Formidable and Brunette are vampy autumn appropriate shades that pack a bunch.

All shades are opaque from the first swatch; they do have a little bit of slip but this conducive to the formula. The colour stays on the lips through eating and drinking with only a slight change around the inner part of the lips.

I’ve loved these lipsticks since first use. I highly recommend you purchase some of your favourite shades from the Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick range if you enjoy a matte but comfortable lipstick formula.
